A life changing experience
I had walked out on my job as manager of 'The Ace Place' (a magic shop in Leicester Square that was owned by someone with the worst moral compass you can imagine) and after a few ill judged attempts at finding work I decided to check out Covent Garden, not realizing at the time that it was to change my life.
At the end of my first ever street performance I hung around in Covent Garden to watch the other performers in the hopes that I would pick up some tips.
The first two days had convinced me that this what I had been looking for, it ticked all the boxes.
An accident proved to be the catalyst for the rest of my performing career.
This was a big turning-point in my street career, Jon (Sid Rasputin) asked me to have a coffee with him. So far he'd only said about two words to me.
1. Attract the attention of passers-by
There are two ways to attract attention, i.e. visually or noisily;
Once I felt comfortable with the mechanics of drawing a crowd and controlling it I had to concentrate on my character.
I am a self-confessed magic geek but I dislike most magicians and I felt that the pompousness shown by magicians is their downfall and I could capitalise on this if I got the character right.
